Minos Transitions to Serian District Council Chair, Aims For Municipality Status
KUCHING (March 30): Dato Peter Minos will transition from his role as chairman of Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) to becoming the new chairman of Serian District Council (MDS).

He said he was informed a few days ago of the new appointment, which will take effect on April 1.

According to him, the date for the swearing-in ceremony for himself and the MDS councilors will be confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.

“After 10 years of service in Samarahan and at 76 years old, the government has asked me to go to Serian. It is a challenge but I accept it.

“I have done my bit at Samarahan and I look forward to serving Serian,” he said today.

Minos stated that one of his key tasks will be to help Serian achieve municipality status, as he successfully did for Samarahan in 2016.

He also mentioned being tasked to address the need for a new headquarters for the Serian District Council, as the current one is “old and too congested”.

“We will also follow up on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s wish to turn Serian into a mini ‘New Zealand’. I will see how to work on tourism in the area.

“Serian is known as a Bidayuh-majority area. Being a Bidayuh myself, I will see how to upgrade and improve things in Serian, together with other agencies and my staff,” he said.

Minos has served as MPKS chairman since 2016. Before that, he was Walikota of Samarahan District Council for one year prior to its elevation to municipal status.
