KUCHING (March 12): Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn has requested the Sarawak Education Department to investigate allegations of bullying in a secondary school in Serian.

The Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister said he has taken note of a viral social media posting regarding the matter, and called for appropriate action to be taken if it is proven true.

“Yes (action must be taken) if it is proven. In any event, this is a wake-up call. School authorities must be sensitive to possible cases and causes of indiscipline,” he said when contacted yesterday.

A mother had posted on Facebook that her three children were victims of bullying at the school.

She also claimed that the school’s officials did not respond accordingly to such cases.

According to the mother, her children suffered injuries from being bullied, and also had their money and personal belongings stolen.

Meanwhile, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said he has requested the Serian district education office to look into the matter and report the findings to him.

He also said that he had spoken with the school principal to gain a clearer picture of the alleged bullying.
