KUCHING: People from all walks of life are invited to a nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) awareness and health screening programme, taking place on Feb 22 at the Serian Civic Centre.
Organised by the Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), the programme is set to take place from 8.30am to 2pm.
“The forthcoming event is held in conjunction with World Cancer Day, which is marked on Feb 4 every year.
“This initiative aims to raise awareness about NPC, promote early detection, and provide free health screenings to the community,” said SCAN in a statement yesterday.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate given that early detection plays a crucial role in improving treatment outcomes for NPC and other health conditions.
The programme will include free health screenings, with assessments for NPC and general health checks to facilitate early detection and intervention.
A panel discussion featuring an ENT specialist, an oncologist, and an NPC survivor will provide invaluable insights on NPC symptoms, treatment options and patient experiences.
In addition, an oral cancer awareness exhibition will highlight risk factors, early warning signs, and prevention strategies through interactive displays and educational materials.
“NPC is one of the most common cancers in Sarawak, and early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
“The public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to undergo health screenings and gain knowledge from medical professionals and cancer survivors,” said SCAN.
