SERIAN: A large crowd turned up for the Used Cooking Oil Buy-Back Campaign at the Serian District Council parking area yesterday (June 20).
Hundreds of local residents from various communities thronged the campaign, bringing along their recyclable items and used cooking oil in exchange for cash and environmental education.
Timuran Kembangan anaging director Johnny Ting Su King expressed his excitement over the strong support shown by the local community toward the initiative.
“We didn’t expect such an overwhelming response to this programme. The support from the community has been very encouraging,” Ting told Sarawak Tribune today (June 21).
He noted that the enthusiastic turnout is a clear sign of growing public awareness and responsibility in protecting the environment.
What makes the campaign especially appealing is that every kilogram of used cooking oil brought in is exchanged for cash — RM2.90 per kilogramme.
Ting added this is the first time such a campaign has been held in the Serian Division, and the company plans to bring the initiative to other areas in the future.
He added that initiatives like this are important because they help educate the public to be more environmentally responsible.
Moreover, he added that the campaign raises awareness of the importance of sustainable environmental care.
“This campaign is hoped to serve as a catalyst for driving positive environmental change toward a greener and more dynamic future,” he said.
Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to the Serian District Council for their support.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all parties for participating in this programme.
“It indirectly supports the goals of sustainable development while fulfilling our social responsibility and contributing to environmental sustainability,” Ting added.
He revealed that a similar campaign will be held tomorrow (June 22) in Saratok and Betong.
