SIBURAN: Continuous, data-driven monitoring of infectious diseases at the community level must be carried out to ensure that preventive measures can be implemented earlier and more effectively.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said early detection is crucial as many infectious diseases are latent in nature and may exist without clear symptoms.
According to him, without systematic monitoring, such infections could become active and spread within the community without being detected.
“Consistent monitoring allows us to compare data over time, identify new risks and assess the effectiveness of public health interventions that have been implemented.
“Through accurate data, follow-up actions can be planned more strategically to protect the wellbeing of the community,” he said when attending the Disease Surveillance Programme, here on Sunday.
The Tarat Assemblyman also stressed that public awareness on the importance of health screening must be improved particularly in rural areas.
He added that collaboration between government agencies such as the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC), local authorities and local communities is important in strengthening the state’s public health system. -UKASnews
