SERIAN: The Serian Community Park came alive with warm lantern lights on Friday night following the official launch of its first-ever lantern installation, an initiative aimed at enhancing the town’s communal spaces while ushering in the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.
Bukit Semuja Assemblyman John Ilus said the initiative reflects the strong spirit of unity and cooperation among Serian’s multi-ethnic community, noting that festive decorations in shared public spaces help foster harmony and mutual respect beyond cultural and religious boundaries.
The lantern installation programme was initiated by the Serian Urban Area Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), led by its chairman Kapitan Wisdom Hoan, as part of efforts to beautify the town and create a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
John added that such community-driven programmes not only enhance the physical landscape but also encourage collective participation and a culture of togetherness, especially when celebrations are embraced inclusively by people of different backgrounds.
He also commended the close collaboration between local leaders, authorities and community representatives in ensuring the smooth implementation of the initiative, describing it as a positive example of grassroots engagement in urban development.
Also present were Serian Division Deputy Resident Abdul Khalid Manap, Serian District Police Chief Superintendent Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian, Serian District Council Secretary Tay Guan Huat, Kapitan Wisdom Hoan, community leaders and invited guests. -UKASnews
