SIBURAN: Education marks a key element in driving Sarawak towards a new economy, namely a green economy.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that Sarawak is now actively producing a knowledgeable workforce in Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) not only in terms of degrees, but also technical skills for the industry.
“Sarawak is now moving towards a new economy, namely a green economy because we want to contribute to a cleaner and healthier world.
“That is why we are developing hydrogen technology as a green fuel. The raw material is water, and we have plenty of this resource.
“However, water alone is not enough, we need knowledge to separate hydrogen and oxygen in order to produce this green energy,” he said when speaking at the Home & Future Night 3.0: New Year Celebration 2026 at the Shui De Xing Jun Temple, Tapah on Monday.
Dato Sri Roland Sagah added that this is a reason foreign countries have called on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg to share ideas on green economic development not only in Asia but also in Western countries.
He explained that all this can only be achieved through education because Sarawak needs more scholars and STEM activists to build the future.
Meanwhile, the Tarat Assemblyman added that Sarawak is also unique as the state has people of various races and religions but also mutual respect for one another.
He explained that this uniqueness means that no race has an advantage over others but work together to build the future for the sake of Sarawak. -UKASnews
