KUCHING (Dec 10): Balai Ringin near Serian is set for significant transformation with plans for a new township underway, said Serian District Council (MDS) chairman Dato Peter Minos.

He said the new township will incorporate the rich traditional culture of the warm and friendly Iban community of Balai Ringin, adding that the project has been well-received by locals.

“This new development marks a major step forward for the area, which has long served as a popular rest stop for travellers heading from Serian to Sri Aman,” said Minos.

He credited Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman, for intensive lobbying efforts to realise the new township plan.

On MDS’ part, he said the council is also extending its support through improvement works, including upgrading the existing market and other public facilities.

“Locals are happy about the coming new township. To them, it is something very good and great, and they thank YB Datuk Snowdan for it. I am happy for them too,” he said.

Minos added that Balai Ringin is well-known for its fresh river fish, lobsters and vegetables, making it a frequent stop for motorists travelling along the route.
