SIBURAN: The Sarawak Level World Rivers Day 2025 Celebrations were held in a lively manner in Kampung Stabut, Siburan on Saturday.

The official adjournment ceremony was officiated by Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament Datuk Willie Mongin who also expressed appreciation for the continuous efforts of various parties in preserving and conserving rivers as an important source of life.

With the theme “Rivers and Streams in Our Community”, this celebration emphasises the importance of the role of local communities in preserving the cleanliness, beauty and sustainability of rivers as invaluable national treasures.

In line with the United Nations (UN) initiative, World Rivers Day is celebrated every last Sunday of September and serves as a platform to raise public awareness about the importance of rivers and issues related to clean water sources.

Various interesting and beneficial activities were organised throughout the programme including, Fun Walk along the riverside area, River Ranger activity which is a community education programme on river conservation, Briefing by UNIMAS lecturers on River Ranger activities, Demo of the use of Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) by the Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department, a cutting-edge technology tool to assess river quality and flow, and a People's Sports demo by JKKK Kampung Stabut.

This programme not only provides exposure to the public on river monitoring techniques and technology, but also fosters a sense of shared responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness and ecosystem of the river.

Also present at the event were Administrative Officer at the Serian Resident's Office representing the Serian Resident, Suzana Pidan, Siburan District Officer, Ranum Bari, and Division Engineer of Serian Irrigation and Drainage Department, Bartholemew Emily Ayu. - UKASnews
