KUCHING (April 3): The Serian Health Clinic, completed on Jan 10 this year at a cost of over RM23.89 million, will offer integrated healthcare services to the community in Serian, said the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR).
The project was planned and implemented under the 10th Malaysia Plan, with construction having commenced on April 2, 2020, it said in a statement following the official handover of the facility to the Sarawak Health Department today.
JKR Sarawak said the scope of the project included a clinic block (Type 3), two-storey courthouse block, store block, pump house block, ambulance garage block, main switch box and genset house block, guard house block, and parking area.
“Serian Health Clinic is the first integrated clinic in the division, and among the facilities available are the Maternal and Child Health Unit, Outpatient Department, Pharmacy Unit, Laboratory, Emergency Unit, Radiology Unit and Dental Clinic.
“This clinic also has two specialist equipment rarely found at existing government clinics in Serian Division, namely an advanced X-ray machine from Japan and a Specialist Dental Chair imported from Italy,” it said.
The Specialist Dental Chair, which is equipped with an intra-oral camera and monitor as well as an electrocautery set, allows for clearer visualisation of the condition in the mouth and facilitates more complex surgical procedures.
“The new clinic will play an important role in providing more comprehensive healthcare services to the residents of Serian without them having to travel back and forth to other health facilities,” said JKR Sarawak.
It added that this is in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system, ensuring that every citizen has equal access to the medical treatment they need.
With the handover, JKR Sarawak said cleaning works will now be carried out to pave way for medical equipment to be moved in ahead of the clinic’s operation.
