KUCHING: Several organisations have come together to reach out to victims of the recent floods in Serian.
The Borneo Flood Relief Serian Division initiative involves the distribution of basic household items to affected families sheltering at the Kampung Tanah Putih temporary evacuation centre.
The donations are from the Rotary Club of Kuching Central, Rotary Club of Kuching, Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rotaract clubs of Swinburne Sarawak and SEGi Sarawak, and Rotary clubs in Singapore, Johor, Melaka and Brunei.
Together, they are providing 516 mattresses and 1,032 pillows to the affected families.
“These essential items are meant to offer comfort and support during the recovery process, helping families regain some stability as they begin to rebuild their homes and lives.
“This could also alleviate some of their financial burden in replacing their destroyed household items,” said a press release issued following the handover of items at the Service Sarawak Centre in Serian.
It is understood that the items will be distributed to the identified beneficiaries soon.
The release added that the collective effort of these organisations, through the leadership of organising chair Sharon Chua of Rotary Club of Kuching Central, underscores the power of collaboration in times of crisis, ensuring a swift and comprehensive response to the disaster and providing hope to those affected.
