
BALAI RINGIN: The cultural landscape of Balai Ringin received a significant boost as the Balai Ringin Cultural Programme 2025 was officially launched at the Balai Ringin Depot Multi-Purpose Hall, drawing around 220 attendees for an evening celebrating arts, heritage and community unity.
Organised by the Sarawak Women’s Federation (PPWS) Tanah Mawang branch with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, the programme runs from 28 to 30 November and features traditional performances, cultural showcases and community-driven activities aimed at strengthening social harmony and preserving local heritage.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Balai Ringin assemblyman, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who highlighted the importance of cultural initiatives as a foundation for unity among the area’s diverse communities.
He said programmes such as this not only highlight the richness of local traditions but also foster cooperation and pride among the people, contributing to a more cohesive society.
Datuk Snowdan also made a key development announcement, revealing that the Sarawak Government has approved RM55 million to upgrade Balai Ringin town.
The allocation covers infrastructure improvement, enhancement of public amenities and the development of trading facilities.
He noted that the project’s tender process is expected to begin next year, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring balanced development across rural constituencies.
Also present were Principal Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dr Elena Gregoria Chai Cin Fern, Commanding Officer of the 4th Regiment Royal Armoured Corps representative, Mejar Mohd Redzuan Mohd Tahir, Serian District Police Chief representative, Inspector Will Kinya, Assistant Administrative Officer for Balai Ringin Sub-District, Gary Sean Thomas, PPWS Kampung Tanah Mawang representative, Catherine Raweng, and Zone A Penghulu Lama Bungkol.
