SERIAN: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian hailed the upcoming Danu Serian water theme park and apartment as the first of its kind in Borneo.
During the launching of the project today, Dr Sim, who is the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, said the project would be a pride for Serian and Sarawak.
The 18-acre development by Tecktonic Group will feature apartments, a hotel, a water theme park, shops and a large dining area, and is expected to be completed within two years.
Project developer, Lee Chin Teck, described the development as a “shining diamond in the Borneo jungle”, noting his company had earlier completed the Tasik Biru project in Bau.
He said the project was expected to attract visitors from neighbouring West Kalimantan as well as local and foreign tourists.
A renowned landscaping group from Thailand has been engaged to beautify and landscape the site.
Serian District Council (SDC) Chairman, Datuk Peter Minos, said the project would create much-needed jobs and generate income for the people of Serian.
“We support anything that is new and modern; otherwise, we will remain stagnant. This project creates jobs, businesses and opportunities, and that is what Serian needs,” he said in a statement.
Minos added that the SDC would also develop six tourism projects at Silabur Cave, Ranchan Pool Waterfall, Kampung Panchor Hot Spring, Bung Sadong Mountain, Riih Daso Lake, and Pesang River to complement the Danu project.
“Tourists can stay at the Serian Danu Hotel and make day trips to these tourism projects. I am very happy for Serian and its people,” he added.
