SERIAN: Kampung Taee came alive today in a spectacular burst of colour and culture as the local Bidayuh community hosted the annual 'Perarakan Gawai Dayak' (Taee Gawai Parade) in celebration of Gawai Dayak.
The lively event, rich in tradition and heritage, drew hundreds of visitors, including curious international tourists eager to experience the unique customs of the Bidayuh people.
The parade began at 1 p.m., transforming the village into a festive showcase of ethnic splendour, complete with traditional dances, cultural performances and vibrant costumes that reflected the deep roots of Bidayuh identity.
Gracing the event was Tebedu Assemblyman, Dr. Simon Sinang Bada who praised the community’s efforts in preserving their cultural heritage through such meaningful celebrations.
“Gawai Dayak is more than a harvest festival, it is a symbol of unity and a strong expression of Dayak identity, especially among the Bidayuh community in Serian,” he said during his brief officiating speech.
Dr. Simon added that the parade plays a crucial role in helping younger generations connect with their cultural roots, while also serving as a potential tourism attraction that can elevate Sarawak’s profile on the global stage.
